1. Who we are
AstroSutra (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an online Vedic astrology service operated by Rank First Technologies, with its registered studio at F-542, Industrial Area Phase 8A, Sector 75, Mohali, Punjab, India. The service is accessible at https://astrosutra.in. For any privacy-related question, write to contact@astrosutra.in.
2. Information we collect
To generate an authentic birth chart and a personalised reading, we need a small set of accurate details. We do not collect anything beyond what the service genuinely requires.
2.1 Information you provide
- Account details — your name, email address, mobile number, and a password (stored only as a one-way hash).
- Birth details — date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth. These are the foundation of every Vedic chart and are essential for the service to function.
- Your questions — the questions you ask and any context you share with them.
- Communications — anything you send us by email, WhatsApp, or our contact form.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Technical data — IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, and the pages you visit on AstroSutra.
- Cookies — small files that keep you signed in and help us understand which parts of the site are useful. See section 7.
2.3 Information from payment processors
When you purchase a reading, the payment is handled by a PCI-compliant gateway (such as Razorpay). We never see or store your card number, CVV, or UPI PIN. We only receive a transaction reference, the amount, and a status (success / failure).
3. How we use your information
We use your information only for clearly defined purposes:
- To create your account and authenticate you when you sign in.
- To compute your Vedic birth chart and generate the reading you asked for.
- To process payments and issue invoices where applicable.
- To send essential service emails — order confirmations, reading notifications, and security alerts.
- To respond to your support enquiries.
- To detect, prevent, and investigate fraud or abuse of the service.
- To improve the quality of our readings and the experience of using the site.
- To comply with applicable Indian law, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
4. The lawful basis for using your data
We process your personal data on one of these grounds: your consent (which you give freely when you sign up), the performance of a contract (you asked for a reading, we deliver it), our legitimate business interests (running and securing the platform), and where necessary to comply with the law.
5. Sharing your information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with a small number of trusted parties, and only to the extent needed:
- Hosting and infrastructure providers who store data on our behalf under strict confidentiality.
- Payment processors to complete a transaction you initiated.
- AI processing partners who help generate the language of your reading. Where this happens, we send only the chart calculations and your question — not your identifying contact information.
- Email and SMS providers who deliver transactional messages.
- Legal authorities if we are compelled by a valid order from an Indian court or a competent regulator.
6. How we protect your information
We take security seriously. We use HTTPS across the entire site, hash passwords with modern algorithms, restrict database access to authorised personnel, and keep our servers patched. No system on the internet is perfectly secure, but we apply industry-standard safeguards and review them regularly.
7. Cookies
We use a small number of cookies. Strictly necessary cookies keep you logged in and protect against cross-site request forgery. Functional cookies remember preferences such as your timezone. We may also use a privacy-respectful analytics cookie to understand aggregate traffic patterns. You can delete cookies from your browser at any time, but parts of the site (notably the dashboard) will not work without the strictly necessary ones.
8. How long we keep your data
We retain your account and reading history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain certain records (for example, GST invoices for 8 years under Indian tax law). Anonymised data — chart calculations stripped of any identifying information — may be retained longer for service improvement.
9. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct any inaccurate detail (especially birth time, which materially affects your chart).
- Request deletion of your account and the personal data linked to it.
- Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
To exercise any of these rights, write to us at contact@astrosutra.in. We respond within 30 days.
10. Children
AstroSutra is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Third-party links
Our site occasionally links to external websites (for example, payment gateways or social platforms). Once you leave AstroSutra, this policy no longer applies. We encourage you to read the privacy notices of any site you visit.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our service, technology, or the law. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will always tell you when it was last revised. Material changes will be notified to you by email at least 14 days in advance.
