There are two numerology systems in common use. Pythagorean assigns letters 1–9 in alphabetical order and is the one most Western sites use. Chaldean assigns values 1–8 by sound, never uses 9 for a letter, and is the system Indian Ank Jyotish actually grew out of.
Most sites quietly mix the two, or use different systems on different pages. The result is that the same name returns one number on the name page and a different number on the compatibility page. We picked Chaldean and locked it. Every page you see below uses it, so your numbers will never disagree with each other.
One more decision worth naming: our number friendships come from classical graha maitri — the planetary friendships used in Vedic astrology — rather than from one of the many conflicting numerology charts in circulation. Every number on this site — Mulank, Bhagyank, name values, the Lo Shu grid, personal year — is computed in our own code, deterministically. The AI never does the arithmetic and is explicitly forbidden from changing a number it is handed. It only writes the interpretation.
That is not a technical detail, it is the whole point. It means the same person asking the same question twice gets the same numbers both times — which is exactly what an AI left to do the maths on its own cannot promise you.
